World of Dance Season 2! WEEK 6 Live Blog!!

Okay, I think we’re back to normal after a repeat last week?? As for me – BEWARE!! I’ve been awake since 1 am (work life is hell) and I’ve had wine. It’s like a double whammy. 🙂 Super punchy and it’s very possible that I could fall asleep during the commercials. My *eyes* hurt.

Here we go!!

First up, some familiar faces from last season – DNA. He’s the one who got picked on a bit for not being strong enough for the lifts they were attempting. Curious to see if he’s done some strength training.

Opening is very impactful. Excellent. Gorgeous. I think they’ve modified their routine a bit to avoid the strength issue although they still have crazy good lifts. EXCELLENT routine.

JLo and Ne-yo both comment on his bigger muscles. Derek likes that he took responsibility. He loves her legs – I agree, she was amazing as well.

Scores: 85, 89 and 89 for an average of 87.7. They’re going through and rightfully so!!

As of right now there are 41 acts that we haven’t seen yet. I’m still wondering when they’re going to cut to the chase like they did last season. Of course, last season there were quite a few acts that we never saw. Interesting to see how they proceed this season!

What are the judges talking about when we come back from commercial? No idea. I must be tired cuz I’m not following it.

Next up…guys in hockey uniforms?? Am I delusional? No. This is Brotherhood – Upper team from Vancouver, Canada.

Wow. Super tight opening. and there’s 10 of them. Not easy. Love that linked up move. Oh and bringing the sticks in is risky. Using the whole stage is awesome. I feel like they got edited a bit more than previous acts.

Derek is digging them although he has some commentary on the props – be careful they don’t go to far. Ne-Yo wanted more props and for them to be careful with their faces. JLo thinks they started a bit slow and that they’re missing an “it” factor. Not sure I agree with her. I liked them!!

Scores: 85, 81 and 75 (Derek, Ne-Yo, JLo) for an average of 80.3 – barely squeaked through!! JLo kinda low balling. Odd.

Whenever we get to the end of the Qualifiers, I will do a big recap/summary. Anything in particular you want to see?

We have a youngster up next who is talking about her boyfriend breaking up with her. I don’t think you could pay me to go back to that age. So freakin’ hard. What is this child’s name? She’s a junior named Vivian Ruiz. From Miami, dancing contemporary, cuz that’s what you do.

Great control. Not too flail-y. She’s kinda interesting. Great feet. Geez, WoD, why are we editing the acts suddenly.

Derek asking her what the routine was about. She talks heart break. Girl, trust me – it gets better. Derek commiserating. 🙂 Talks about writing love letters. He points out her off balance moment – I agree, I noted it as well.

JLo feeling the pain and relates. Says she does a good job. Ne-Yo talking about pain and not out running it.

Scores: 83, 84, 82 for an average of 83 – she’s going through!!

Derek tells the story that his fans have heard before from when he was 16 and writing love letters, dropping water on the paper to make it look like he was crying. Ne-Yo scoffing – dude, I’ve heard this story 4 times now. Real deal. 🙂

By far, they haven’t show the Junior teams the most. There’s still a ton of those on the list who haven’t aired yet. I wonder if they just weren’t good enough to air??

D’Angelo back with the Untouchables. He was on last year with Amanda as a ballroom dancer. He’s Ruby’s sister – we saw her in week 4 or 5 – she killed it. Don’t get carried away, dad. The finals aren’t that easy. The Untouchables are a Junior group dancing…salsa??

Great start. Lots of tricks. Great sync. Might be too much going on here. Eh, losing a bit of sync there in the middle. Pretty tight towards the end. Great routine all in all, IMO.

JLo loving them and their outfits and the latino energy. She says they’re different. Really? Okay. Ne-Yo commenting on the business that I mentioned. Derek talking about how D’angelo recruited an army (in a funny way) and is talking technique.

Scores: 87, 89, 90 for an average of 88.7 – going through on a nice high score. Derek scored them very well. Of course, he’s most qualified to score that group.

Derek, why you so handsome?? 🙂

Good versus “World of Dance good”.

Next up ST Kingz from Japan. Looks like a Broadway group. But they say “Hip hop/comedy”. Okay. Great song, and they are kind of amusing. Better yet, they’re decent dancers. Once again, an edited routine. I suspect every time I say that they are going to lose a duel.

Derek says it took too long to get to the dancing. Ne-Yo says that it was technique versus showmanship. JLo wanting them to go to another level and dig in. Judges not raving for sure.

Scores: 79, 78, 80 – not enough to make it through with an average of 79. I would agree that they need tougher choreography.

Nest up is a very familiar couple from Derek and Julianne’s MOVE Live on Tour – Zack and Ashley both danced with Derek and Julianne. Finally, a couple dancers that acknowledge that. Talking about Derek the energizer bunny. Both are nervous they will let him down. Unlikely. I saw both live.

Loved Zack on MOVE. Contemporary dancers…I would swear he was a tapper, but I could be confused – excellent combinations. Not too flail-y. pulling some of their expertise from dancing with Derek and Jules. Wow. This is a tough routine with HARD lifts and tricks. Zack is kinda hot. I’ve always thought so. 🙂

Ne-Yo comments on how it was sensual but not raunchy. JLo loves them as well but didn’t care for the song – artistic choice. Derek loves the emotion, the lifts, comments that he’s not seen one of the lifts before.

Scores: 84, 84, 87 – average of 85 means they move on to the next round!! I personally thought they were better than Eva Igo. I hope they go far – loved both on MOVE last summer.

Finally up tonight, a contemporary group from Las Vegas – been looking forward to them since seeing the commercials from this week. They are dancing in tribute the the Vegas shooting. Very emotional. Some are only 11 and 12 years old. They’re killing me.

They’re message is about having hope – The Rock Company!! Expecting a lot from these babies.

Oh geez, the opening i just amazing. What do you call that?? I think of a waterfall with those movements. The little once are doing some heavy lifting. Excellent routine, although they were edited as well, which pisses me off!

JLo out there hugging them and they’re all sobbing. And now I am as well.

Derek asks what it was about – October 1st in Vegas. JLo says it was really beautiful and powerful. She’s raving. I’m kinda pissed that there was clearly more to that routine that we didn’t get to see. Derek is saying how special and powerful it was – how their foundation was so strong and how it allowed the emotion to come through even stronger. Ne-Yo agrees with Derek. Should be good scores.

Scores: 97, 97, 96 for an average of 96.7. Very excellent. I wish we could have seen the whole routine, damnnit. They are one huge puddle of joy.

Ne-Yo – I love when juniors are only junior because of their age. Truth.

Familiar faces next week too!! Like Luka and Jenalyn. The status is as follows:

Uppers – 10 acts
Upper Team – 6 teams
Juniors – 9 acts
Junior Teams – 11 teams

Weird. We could be in the qualifiers for a while, with only 6 acts a week. More likely is that we just don’t see some acts much like last year. We’ll have to wait and see!!

‘World Of Dance’ Season 2, Week Five Qualifiers – The Performance Videos

Here we go again! If you missed episode five of World Of Dance, here are the performances that qualified. I loved Marissa and The Heartbreakers the most this time…

World of Dance Season 2! WEEK 5 Live Blog!!

Great job by Courtney last week while I was in NOLA, eh?? Let’s see what we get this week!!

Embodiment is up first – pretty sure he danced for Derek and Julianne before he got JLo but I guess that doesn’t count. Derek also used him to choreo some of his stuff….which looks somewhat similar to this routine. Same song too. Pretty sure Nappytabs choreographed the original.

Once they got past the first several bars, it was a different routine – very good. Jennifer loves it. Derek is digging it – not making any mention of his relationship with Rudy that goes beyond MOVE and into some of Derek’s own pieces. Derek and Ne-Yo both give them some solid critique.

Scores: 80, 86, and 88 (Ne-yo, Derek and Jennifer respectively) – they make it to the next round, but they need to step it up. Every Derek Hough fan out there is going to be going hey….I’ve seen something similar to that. Something new, Rudy. Read more..

‘World Of Dance’ Season 2, Week Four Qualifiers – The Performance Videos

If you missed episode four of World Of Dance, here are the performances that qualified. Eva Igo was my fave of the night! I just love her expressions and how we can feel her heart and soul in every move.

World of Dance Season 2! WEEK 4 Live Blog!!

Heidi’s currently eating gumbo in New Orleans, so you guys get me (Court) tonight.  Bear with me as I blog, I’m used to being able to move a bit slow and just focus on the music on first viewing – so I might be a bit behind the live broadcast.  And I reserve the right to change my mind upon a 2nd viewing of these acts – there’s already been acts that I wasn’t wild about at first, but warmed up to later (Desi Hoppers) and acts I like initially but didn’t stand up to the test of time (Hilty & Bosch).

Pre-show thoughts: I’m excited to see Jonas & Ruby, who are apparently in this qualifier.  In a lot of ways, I think Ruby’s star shines a bit brighter than big brother D’Angelo’s anymore – sometimes, I think being a younger sibling that lives in the shadow of a popular older sibling can motivate kids to really push hard. I’m less enthused that Eva Igo is back – aside from my aforementioned disdain for flaily contemporary, I’m going to be pretty bored if she makes the finals again, unless she’s really taken this past year as an opportunity to grow and expand her repertoire.

First up is Jonas & Ruby.  Yasssssss 🙂

Jonas looks so much like my ex. And his name is nearly identical.

My god Ruby is such a little firecracker.   And Jonas has really come into his own.  Both of them have GREAT feet.

I kinda see what Derek is talking about with the costumes – especially the cloth on Ruby’s costume.  Kept waiting for Jonas to rip & off and do something big with it and…nothing. Chekov’s gun of dancing – don’t show me an extraneous skirt at the beginning of the dance if you aren’t going to use it by the end.

They get 85, 87, & 82 (Ne-Yo, J-Lo, Derek) for an average of 84.7 and we’ll see them in the duels.  Derek of course mentions “a ballroom couple we had last year that came out strong in the qualifier but kinda fell flat in the duels” and of course he’s referring to D’Angelo & Amanda, which Ruby points out.  Luckily, at this point, I think she’s so used to being compared to him that she shakes it off and promises to come back stronger. And I think they likely will fare better than her brother & Amanda 😉

Next up is Bradas – a hip-hop crew from New Zealand. “Brada” is kiwi slang for “brother”.  Hopefully they’re more organized than the crew from last week from the Netherlands…Ragged?

Holy crap these guys are good – so many moving parts to this routine.  They’re flipping, they’re sliding, and they’ve got this cool bank robber narrative going. They were everything that crew from last week wanted to be, but fell short on. Contender alert!

They get 85, 92, 86 for average of 87.7 and they’re headed to the duels.  I could see them getting pitted against The Ruggeds (they’ll probably spin it as an international battle) and just SLAYING.

Now we’ve got Lucas Marinetto, who is a 14-year-old tap dancer from New Orleans. (I think…I don’t know how Heidi does this, so many details to remember!) Lucas’ dad apparently didn’t always approve off his dancing, which created a rift between them that looks like it only recently healed.  Awwww.

Errr, oops – he’s from Leesburg, VA.  My bad. And he’s incredibly charismatic and dancing his ass off.  Great musicality.  He might be a bit better than Kyle from last season, even.

J-Lo is right – he really is a showman.  Poor kid seems so reserved & shy when he’s just talking, but he comes ALIVE onstage.

He gets 82, 84, & 82, for an average of 82.7.  Ne-Yo says “You’re going to the duels, you know what a duel is, right? SOMEBODY IS TRYING TO TAKE YOUR MONEY!” Lucas: “So just like school, then.” I like this kid 😉

Next up is contemporary group Expressenz from my hometown of Indianapolis. They train with weights on their legs.  HARD CORE.

Those were quite possibly the most synchronized turning sections I’ve ever seen.  It was like watching 8 clones dancing, that in-sync.

I can see what Ne-Yo & Derek are saying – the routine did feel a bit “studio recital-y”, but I agree with J-Lo that there is still room for those feel-good, pretty dances in this competition.

84, 90, 87 – they’re headed through.  I hope their choreographer can pull out something edgy – I have a gut feeling we’ll see them pitted against the Fabulous Sisters.

Now we’ve got Poreotics, who won ABDC several years ago.  And some of them stop dancing and got “real jobs”, but saw Jabbawockeez dancing last season so they decided to get the band back together again to try out.

They are doing their usual robotics, and it’s humorous and very animated – then they threw in a vogueing and waacking section and I fell in love.

Derek & Ne-Yo are kinda going in a bit hard on them –  I actually found the whole thing was pretty inventive and detailed, but Derek & Ne-Yo seemed a tad bored by it.  Luckily J-Lo is on my side with this one and loved it.

87, 90, 87 – Derek & Ne-Yo kind of sharing a brain tonight. I could see Poreotics ending up in a 3-way duel with Elektro Botz & Dragon House (another group of animators that we haven’t seen yet).

I see that they’ve saved Eva Igo for last…*sigh* *shaking head*

She’s wearing a shredded dress perfect for angsty contemporary, and doing a bunch of flexibility tricks backstage.  I’m not optimistic.

She’s flipping.  She’s pulling her leg over her head.  She’s flailing.  There she goes pulling her leg up again.  Angsty face.  Angsty face. Another acrobatic trick. Sorry….really not feeling this.  It’s nothing new or different.

But the judges are gushing and I have a feeling we may see the first perfect 100 average of WOD.  God I hope they aren’t setting this up to be “Eva’s season”.

96, 95, 94 – average of 95.  She isn’t able to best Karen y Ricardo’s score, but it’s close. Ugh.

Oh boy – they’re billing next week as “a very special episode”.  Dare I ask…?

‘World Of Dance’ Season 2, Week Three Qualifiers – The Performance Videos

If you missed episode three of World Of Dance, here are the performances that qualified. Wow, they were all so good. Josh & Taylor and The Elecktrobotz were my favorites.

World of Dance Season 2! WEEK 3 Live Blog!!

Well, what will we get this week? Also, a question – what kind of number would you like to see this season? Do you want just a recap of scores for the qualifiers??

Not sure I understand the appeal of Howie’s Golden Buzzer act on AGT a few moments ago. But okay. 🙂 Time for WoD.

First act is the Ruggeds from the Netherlands. B-Boys.

Seemed a bit old school to me. Some of their formations will appeal to Derek. Not sure how competitive they’ll be.

Ne-Yo and Jennifer and picking at them a tiny bit, as I suspected they would. Not surprised. Derek agrees, and adds that there is a sync issue at the beginning. I agree with that too.

They score an 82, 83 and 85 for an average 83.3, so they make it to the next round.

Derek’s b-boy name was Heavy D…and he says he was anything but Heavy. 🙂 About 30 pounds. Jennifer’s name was “baby love”.

Young Hip Hop duo up next. Josh and Taylor? Cuties. They’re going with a theme of him being a cop and her being a rebel.

Starting very sharp. Great stutter move. Excellent. I’m digging this. That slide through the back of the chair. Yeah, saw Derek try this in a preview. About 10 years ago he could have done it easily. Josh is from Immabeast and Taylor is from Kintey – both from last season.

Judges are very complimentary, Jennifer comparing them to Keone and Mari – I would agree.

They score 92 (Derek), 94 (JLo), and 94 (Ne-Yo) for an average of 93.3. They’re going through!! Fitting Derek through the chair was tighter than I remember. 🙂 He’s bulked up too much. I’m fine with that. 😉

Belarus and Korea in the house. Locking group from Korea and they’re in the Upper Team category. Name is Lock and LoL Crew.

Seems more like hip hop than locking. And a broadway version of hip hop, which I’m fine with. Love the costume change. They’re totally in sync from what I can see. Very well done.

Jlo says pure entertainment, pointing out the character in the middle. She points out that it can get repetitive so they’ll have to keep up the level of entertainment. Ne-Yo thinks it lost a bit of energy as it went along. Derek loves the formations and color coordination and the hat tricks. All the stuff he’s into. He also points out the knee work.

Scores: 80, 79 and 84…getting pulled through by Derek’s 84 – average of 81. While I think that they were a broadway hip hop team more than popping and locking, I thought they did great with what they did. Kinda surprised by the low scores.

When are we going to see them speed through several acts that either move on or get eliminated? It’s week three and we’ve only seen 15 acts out of the 70 plus who tried out.

Next up is Michael Dameski previously from SYTYCD (Australia??). He’s in the upper level and is a contemporary dancer – I can tell by the lack of shirt and shoes. 😉

Gymnastics or Contemporary…he’s doing very well once he gets going. He’s got some amazing moves in there, but you have to go a long way to impress me on this style. I just didn’t really feel it like I think I should have. I mean, it was great, but…

Derek says he can see his passion, and it was great. Jennifer says it was gorgeous. And that it felt dangerous. And it was exciting. Ne-Yo liked how it exploded with the beat. Derek is raving again. Okay.

Scores: 90 (Ne-Yo), 93 (Derek) and 95 (Jennifer) for an average of 92.7.

Ad for Derek’s Master Class…which I still need to download.

Wow…this is a colorful group! LD Dance Company – they got no package at all which doesn’t bode well.

Is this a Vegas act though? They’re very fast, but I dunno. Their sync is good. But I don’t know if they cut it. Derek wants to know how the one guy got into the group. “blessing their booties” LOL. Ne-Yo looks good in the head dress.

Will they get through after that? Derek does criticize that there are limited moves in that style. JLo comments on the high energy but notes that the artistry and creativity might be lacking – not in those words.

Scores: 71, 73 and 79 – as I suspected, they don’t make it through. They just didn’t even have enough Samba in that routine. Derek was the low scorer on that one – and he’s the expert in this case.

Oh this is a cute group from Hawaii called the Rascals. So cute. Junior Team, obviously. Aww..they can only afford one competition per year. That little one that is crying – want to hug her.

Great start!! Here’s another little one with the stank face. Love it. I thought they did awesome! So fast, hard and sharp. Great personality.

Derek is raving over them. Jennifer calls them adorable, but notes that they need to take their adrenaline and control it and polish it more. Ne-Yo loves “little momma in the middle” and she starts sobbing. So cute.

Scores: 83, 83, and 88 – average of 84.7 and they’re through to the next round. Kinda stingy scores from Ne-Yo and Jennifer, IMO.

Next? Elektro Botz – Upper guys doing robotics (popping)!! This should be cool. Oh, making me emotional talking about his mom who died from cancer. So sad. Kill it boys!!

Super cool opening. Love their facial expressions too. Wow. this is very clever and well done. Love that rotating thing that was n all the commercials. Wow. Very innovative and cool. Derek should appreciate that slo mo ending.

Ne-Yo loves their personality (agreed) and thought it was amazing. Jennifer calls it so narrative which is grammatically odd, but I get her. Derek loves the human conveyor belt, calls it crystal clean. Derek picking on the slow mo – I got that wrong. But then he’s done that to perfection on DWTS and got nominated for an Emmy for it. He would know!!

Scores: 86, 88 and 93 (reverse order) for an average of 89. Honestly disagree with Derek’s lower score. I side with Ne-yo on this one – that was so unique!!!

So who was your favorite this week?? And I have to ask – how do you feel about returning favorites?? Eva Igo is back next week. She’s looking fiercer than normal and I loved her last year. I don’t think I have a problem with people who didn’t win coming back. Why not? It’s not like they have an advantage like you would on a show like DWTS.

For that matter, what is this I see on twitter, people complaining about professional dancers against non-professionals?? I think that’s kinda BS. What do you think??

World of Dance Season 2! WEEK 2 Live Blog!!

OMG AGT, what are you doing to me?? The older dancing couple – amazing. 🙂 WoD might have a hard time living up to that. 😉

The dad with the 6 kids? :::tears:::

Here we go…WoD!! More qualifiers. You only need 80 points to move on.

HOORAY!!! The Lab is back!! Love these kids, especially little miss stank-face.

And that was excellent – my reaction pretty much mirrors Derek’s. Force to be reckoned with per JLo. Derek and Ne-Yo rave as well. They did NOT disappoint!!

And they get 95, 92 and 95 from the three judges respectively. 94 average – they moving on!!

Daniella and Pasha are up next with ballroom – please kill it. If you’re “breaking the rules” Derek should love you.

I wonder how many of these ballroom couples Derek went and recruited. He said he was going to find great dancers in the off season.

Very steamy, that turn was amazing. Okay, all their turns are amazing. That was pretty amazing, I do wonder who they will stand up against all the other acts. Okay, Ne-Yo is agreeing with me, but Derek is loving them as I expected he would – their quality of movement is stellar, but Derek does point out the need to make an immediate impact. HE sees it, but the audience may not.

Score?? 79, 93, and 87 from Ne-Yo, Jennifer and Derek, respectively. Derek is most realistic, IMO. Average was an 86.3. I will say that I don’t think Ne-Yo is qualified to say a word about ballroom because he’s likely less familiar with it than the average DWTS viewer.

Third group of the night is Connection from the Upper Team.

Wow, excellent. Love the use of latin flavored music – that makes it a bit different than many. Excellent. Standing ovation from the judges – Hip Hop Latino style from JLo. Judges kinda cracking me up. Love them – they’re very emotional too. Makes me root for them.

Scores: 90, 92, and 90 for an average of 90.7. Very worthy.

Oh boy, contemporary dancers from Utah – the home of all great dancers. These look like youngsters. They are Charity and Andres – yep Juniors.

Okay, they’ve got some interesting, non-cliche moves, but also some standard contemporary that Courtney and I always complain about. Pretty compelling at the end of the dance. Contemporary has to do a lot of work to wow me anymore.

Derek loving the Utah angle. JLo is raving. Derek raves. Ne-yo finding lots of “million dollar” routines tonight. Scores 93 from Derek, 96 from JLo and 97 from Ne-Yo for an average of 95.3. That seems overscored to me, but that’s why I get bugged by contemporary. It has no real rules (unlike ballroom) and people get sucked in really easily. Yes…they were great. But 97?? Too high.

BDash and Konkrete are up next…wasn’t the latter on SYTYCD?? I know I’ve seen him before. Come on, guys, KILL IT!!

Krumping…I mostly love it and I think this is very good. Entertaining. I find it hard to tear my eyes away.

Audience seemed low energy, but the judges seemed to like it. JLo calls it gritty yet so damn smooth.

I suspect they will do well – judges liked that they went to choreo class. And it’s 96, 93 and 94 respectively for an average of 94.3 – excellent. Did we have krumpers last season? I don’t remember any…

Oh goodness – the Fabulous Sisters, so cute. A whole bunch of little girls in red. they have quite the story, being involved in the Japan earthquake and tsunami, then the subsequent issues with radiation.

Holeeeee Crap, that was amazing and I’m not even sure what it was!! So good. Might be my new favorite!! Okay, my spread sheet says they’re Urban – but the outfits threw me off. Maybe there was no other categories.

Score is 94, 93, 97, respectively for an average of 94.7 – very worthy. Excellent. Oh, they made me a bit weepy with their happiness.

So, everyone made it through tonight with some pretty high scores. Personally, I think some of the teams tonight deserved scores just as high as what we saw last week. But it doesn’t really matter – we’re qualifying here.

NBC Dominates The Tuesday Night Ratings With “America’s Got Talent” And “World of Dance”

The ratings for the premiere of World Of Dance Season 2 are down a little from last season’s premiere, but, it came in second after “America’s Got Talent” and NBC dominated the night. More below from Variety. Be sure to read the link for more.

NBC handily won Tuesday night with the season premieres of “America’s Got Talent” and “World of Dance.” However, both shows–particularly “World of Dance”–were down from last season’s premieres.

“America’s Got Talent,” airing from 8-10 p.m., averaged a 2.4 rating in adults 18-49 and 12.1 million viewers, making it easily the top-rated and most-watched show of the night. It was down approximately 11% in the demo and 2% in total viewers from the Season 12 premiere last May.

In its second season debut, “World of Dance” averaged a 1.8 and 7.2 million viewers. That is down 25% in the demo and approximately the same percentage in total viewers compared to the Season 1 premiere. This season’s premiere was in line with the first season’s ratings average though and topped its timeslot by a wide margin.

Favorite Quote at the moment: "Sing like no one is listening. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody's watching, and live like it's heaven on earth." ~ William Purkey.
