NBC World Of Dance Premiere Strong TV Ratings, #2 Show Overall On Tuesday Night

Good news for World Of Dance’s first TV Ratings. World Of Dance dominated it’s timeslot. Not only that, it was the night’s #2 show overall. Here is more from Headline Planet….

According to fast national data posted by Showbuzz, the episode drew a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 9.75 million overall viewers.

“World Of Dance” dominated its timeslot in both columns. It was the night’s #2 show overall.

NBC led into “World Of Dance” with the season premiere of “America’s Got Talent,” which averaged a 2.6 rating and 12.07 million viewers from 8-10PM. It was Tuesday’s top show in both columns.

“AGT” was even in the demo and up in viewership from last season’s premiere, which drew a 2.6 and 11.67 million viewers.

— Given the strong “AGT” lead-in support, there was little chance of “World Of Dance” flopping Tuesday night.

More at Headline Planet.

ETA: Broadway World also writes that “World Of Dance” had “the biggest regular slot debut of 2017 to date.” Too awesome! Here is more from the link…

The series premiere of WORLD OF DANCE (2.4/9 in 18-49, 9.7 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) is the #1 premiere of 2017 on the broadcast nets in 18-49 and total viewers (excluding previews) and also the top regular-slot debut on the Big 4 networks in both measures since Premiere Week last fall (in 18-49 since “This Is Us,” 2.8 on Sept. 20, 2016, and in total viewers since “MacGyver,” 10.7 million on Sept. 23, 2016). Is the top series debut for a summer alternative show on cable or broadcast in five years (since NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior,” 2.4 on May 21, 2012). Is the most-watched summer alternative series debut across cable or broadcast in nine years (since ABC’s “Wipeout, June 24, 2008). Is NBC’s most-watched summer series debut in nearly 10 years, since “The Singing Bee” on July 10, 2007 (13.3 million). The show, which features Jennifer LOPEZ as a coach and executive producer, soars +71% versus NBC’s average in the timeslot last summer (2.4 vs. 1.4, L+SD, non-sports). Dominates the time period in every key category, doubling the combined ABC-CBS competition in all key demographics.

Pure World of Dance Season 1, Week 1 (Qualifiers) – Power Rankings

Well after the manipulation headache that was the most recent season of DWTS, I’m happy to say that the premiere of WOD was a nice palate cleanser last night 🙂 There was nary a whiff of manipulation to be found, and on the whole, everybody on the show – from the contestants, to the judges, to the host, to the audience – just seemed really excited to be there, and grateful for the opportunity.  My, what a difference a lack of arrogance and entitlement in the cast of dance show makes to my enjoyment! 🙂 Was also kinda nice that it was only an hour long, and we only saw seven acts in this first episode, which makes blogging a brand new show seem a bit less daunting.

That being said – bear with me (and Heidi, and Vogue) because we’re still trying to figure this show out, and how we want to approach it in our coverage.  If you have any suggestions, PLEASE – do share them, because we are quite literally making this up as we go along 😛 If there is some aspect of the show you would like us to cover, let us know – we are open to suggestions. In case you missed it, you can check out Heidi’s live blog of last night’s show here; if you’re looking for a list of music from last night’s episode, go here. We are still working on getting profiles posted for all of this season’s contestants, but you will be able to find all of them here.

Now, onto the power rankings – these are obviously going to be different than the ones I do for PureDWTS.  Since the contestants are currently only competing against other contestants within their division, it really only makes sense to rank them against the other acts in their division on a given episode. Since there were only six acts last night (that actually advanced to the next round), there were only two acts in each division – so it’s really just a matter of “which of these two acts did better?” And when I say “better”, I mean “more likely to stick around in this competition and possibly win”. So I just ranked the two acts within each division and gave my thoughts – and at the bottom of the page, I did “Court’s pick”, which was just my personal favorite from the episode, and also who I think fared the best out of all the acts on a particular episode. I also threw in the “eliminated” category to give my thoughts on any acts eliminated from last night’s show. And again – I’m totally open to suggestions if you think there’s a different way to do it that might work better. Shall we begin? 🙂 Read more..

Pure World of Dance Season 1 Contestant Profile: Tap Dancer ‘Kyle Van Newkirk’

I’m so excited as Tap Dancer and World Of Dance contestant Kyle Van Newkirk is from where I live. As previously reported, his Mom and I are long time friends as we use to work together in education. Knowing her like I have all of these years, I am not surprised she and her husband have raised such a talented, dedicated, special, and passionate human being. Note that his passion for dance started when he was only four years-old when he watched “Lord of the Dance” performed by professional dancers. From there, his parents have helped him to fulfill his dreams which hasn’t been easy being he’s from a small town in Nebraska. You can watch a video and read about Kyle at KNOP News. The first video below also tells his story. Don’t miss our first report on Kyle here too which includes some new interviews. Get ready for Kyle to blow us away soon on “World Of Dance” and then some!
